Newark temporarily postpones proposed curfew for minors

0

NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) – A curfew for teens in Newark that was supposed to go into effect has been postponed for now.

The Mayor’s Office confirmed to PIX11 that the delay is only temporary.

Mayor Ras Baraka says when the curfew is enacted, they hope it will help keep young people safe.

The proposed curfew would run from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for children 17 and under. If a minor violates the curfew, they will be given a verbal warning from a police office and driven home.

If the curfew is violated a second time within six months, the minor will be taken to Newark Police Youth Strategies to be picked up by a parent or guardian.
