Ville Platte alderman indicted on 36 counts of voter fraud

VILLE PLATTE, La. (KLFY) -- A Ville Platte alderman has been indicted for a second time for voter fraud in the 2022 election, authorities said.

Prosecutors with the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office obtained a 36-count grand jury indictment on Christina Sam in Evangeline Parish on Wednesday regarding voter fraud between May and November of 2022 during the general election.

Sam was previously arrested and indicted on election fraud charges by Evangeline Parish District Attorney Trent Brignac, but those charges were dropped in September.

Sam was elected by a 64-36% margin in the Dec. 10, 2022 runoff election, after gaining 46% of the vote in the three-way primary election on Nov. 8, 2022.

The Evangeline Parish Grand Jury indicted Sam for:

  • Eighteen counts of Election Offenses Affecting Registration and Election Fraud or Forgery
  • Eighteen counts of Filing or Maintaining False Public Records.

Sam is accused of having people agree to vote for her in the November race by changing their residential address to her district for the sole purpose of voting for her, and not with the intention to reside there indefinitely, as the law requires, according to the attorney general's office.

She will be arraigned in the coming weeks, authorities said.
