Rapides Parish deputies report storm-related death
RAPIDES PARISH, La. (WNTZ) - The Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office has reported one woman has died as a result of the recent storms.
RPSO deputies responded at approximately 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to the 7400 block of Esler Field Road, Pineville, to a report of a tree falling on a camper trailer.
Upon arrival, deputies located a large tree that had fallen on a camper trailer, most likely due to the severe weather event earlier that morning. Holiday Village Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance were already on scene and advised the deputies that there was a person dead in the trailer, authorities said.
The victim was an unidentified 60-year-old woman, according to the Louisiana Depatment of Health.
A local crane service responded to remove the tree from the camper.
Detectives from the Tioga Sub-station and the Crime Scene Unit responded to conduct their investigation. Through their investigation, they determined the death was weather related and no foul play was suspected. The Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office then took possession of the body.
“This is a terrible tragedy, and our condolences go out to the family of the deceased” said Sheriff Mark Wood. “During these severe weather events, we encourage citizens to monitor the weather and take necessary precautions to stay safe.”
