Iran’s threat to attack Israel is ‘real’: White House

White House National Security Council spokesman said Iran’s threat to retaliate against Israel is “real, credible, and actionable.”

John Kirby said on Friday at a press briefing that White House officials are in a state of readiness for Iran’s retaliatory strike.

Kirby added that the US is closely monitoring the situation. He did not provide details on the potential timing of Iran’s attack.

He said US officials maintain a constant dialogue with Israeli counterparts to ensure Israel’s ability to defend itself against an Iranian attack. President Biden receives updated information on this matter multiple times daily.

Following Israel’s strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria, tensions between the two nations have surged. Iran perceives the attack as a direct affront to its sovereignty and regional influence, vowing retaliation against Israel.

Meanwhile, Israel defends its actions as necessary to counter Iranian aggression and prevent the establishment of an Iranian military presence near its borders.

The US National Security Council spokesman stated that the US recognizes Iran’s clear and credible threat against Israel. He emphasized that the country is assessing its capabilities before any potential Iranian attack in the region.

CNN, citing a US source, reported that Iran is not planning a direct attack on Israel. Instead, Iranian proxy groups are fully prepared for an attack and are awaiting the right time to strike Israel.

Tensions between Iran and Israel have escalated following the attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria.
