Let’s hope Crochet sticks to his knitting

It’s a battle of lefties at the GuRF this afternoon, a battle where the White Sox seem to have a considerable edge. Seem to.

That’s because Garrett Crochet, the one bright spot on the team, will be trying to extend his remarkable start to the season, while the Reds counter with a pitcher who may have some subconscious quivers upon staring down at White Sox uniforms.

That pitcher is Nick Lodolo, whose quivers could come because he’s making his first regular season appearance since last May 6, when he was facing the Sox in Cincinnati and suffered a stress fracture in his left tibia. Historically, Lodolo has thrown a low-90s four-seamer almost half the time, and a curve most of the rest.

Lodolo will be facing a White Sox lineup with both Gavin Sheets and Dominic Fletcher despite his southpawness, and in an interesting twist, the White Sox release on today’s lineup lists two right fielders and nobody in center.

Heck, why not? Nothing else has worked.

Crochet will be trying to tame a Reds lineup that smashed for 11 runs last night. There are some changes because he’s a lefty, but not many.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. Central, when it should be a sunny 63° with light wind right to left. Usual broadcast suspects.
