With the Lakers having an up and down season, fans think the most likely option is either a play-in exit or an NBA Finals appearance.

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NBA. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Los Angeles Lakers fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

The Lakers will be involved in NBA basketball past the regular season, but their play-in positioning and opponent won’t be known until all games finish on Sunday. The scenarios are clear: they can be as high as the eighth seed and as low as the tenth seed entering the play-in.

With the Lakers having impressive wins against teams like the Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics but equally disappointing losses versus the San Antonio Spurs and Sacramento Kings, it’s fair to wonder which version of the Lakers will show up in the postseason.

Our first question this week asked fans how deep the Lakers will go in the postseason and the responses were revealing.

With 35% of the vote, fans think the Lakers will bounce out during the play-in. That seems fair and reasonable given the Lakers’ position and play this season, but what’s fascinating is that the second-highest voted-for option was the Lakers, making the NBA Finals at 28%.

The fact that both extremes would be number one and two in voting is hilarious, but it demonstrates where this team is at. They can beat and lose to anyone, so both options are the most logical conclusion people come to.

The league may be buzzing about postseason action, but the end of the regular season means it’s time to give out end-of-the-year awards. When it came to the Defensive Player of the Year Award, we asked fans who they thought should win it and the answer was the rookie from San Antonio, Victor Wembanyama.

If Victor Wembanyama wins Defensive Player of the Year, it would be the first time a rookie has won the award. Given that Wembanyama leads the league in blocks with 3.6 per game and has been a defensive menace all season long, it’s not far-fetched to say he deserves this award and is most impactful on that side of the ball.

Anthony Davis did get some votes, but only enough to garner 6%. Based on our fans, it looks like Davis won’t be getting DPOTY honors despite his incredible form this season protecting the paint.
