UFC 300 results: Bo Nickal sees second round for first time, but submits Cody Brundage

It wasn’t another quick night for Bo Nickal, but he made it look easy nonetheless.

Nickal (6-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) needed two rounds to submit Cody Brundage (10-6 MMA, 4-5 UFC) at the 3:38 mark of their middleweight bout, which opened up the UFC 300 main card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Brundage threw a flying knee as he charged Nickal to kick off Round 1. The two got into a brief grappling exchange, as Nickal used a Granby roll to reverse Brundage. Nickal then took Brundage down, and transitioned to his back. Nickal worked for a rear-naked choke, but Brundage did a good job of defending. Nickal briefly got full mount, but switched right to the back.

Nickal entered a second round for the first time in his career. He opened up with a big body kick, followed by a failed takedown attempt. He succeeded in his second takedown attempt, and was able to get full mount. He eventually transitioned to Brundage’s back, and submitted him with a rear-naked choke.

Still undefeated, Nickal gave himself two thumbs down for his performance. He called out Anthony Hernandez in his in-octagon interview with Joe Rogan. Brundage saw his two-fight winning streak snapped after wins over Jacob Malkoun and Zachary Reese.
