Mariners Game #15 Preview: 4/13/2024, CHC at SEA

the mariners look to figure out how many bears they could take in a fight

After last night’s straightforward and platonic ideal Mariners game, the M’s look to clinch the series with tonight’s second game against the Chicago Cubs.

Lineups:

They’ll look to do that with a lineup that’s very similar to last night’s, with one exception. Seby Zavala will be behind the dish, giving Cal the day off. With the Cubs starting lefty Shota Imanaga (and Cal’s 0-4 night last night), it seems like a good idea to let Cal rest, at least for the first 8 innings.

Otherwise, this is the same lineup that put 4 runs on the board last night, so maybe they’ll be the first squad to charge Imanaga with an earned run this year.

Pregame Notes:

• Scott said that Cal was always going to get a game off this series, and brushed off concerns about last night’s game. He said that Cal made some good plays behind the dish, and called a good game (particularly praising Cal for utilizing all of Miller’s fastball variants)
• He noted that after relying heavily on Ryne Stanek, the bullpen is looking a little bit thin today. The team is hoping Emerson can go long by inducing ground balls, especially with his sinker and changeup.
• Scott also praised J.P.’s game last night, remarking on the shortstop’s competitive ABs.
