Cooper Flagg Had A Solid Night At The Nike Hoop Summit
And three other future Blue Devils were there as well.
Four members of Duke’s class of 2024 played in the Nike Hoop Summit Saturday, with Cooper Flagg, Isaiah Evans and Patrick Ngongba playing for the US and Khaman Maluach was on the World team.
The US won 98-75. Flagg had a terrific game with 19 pts on 8-11 shooting. He also pulled down 11 boards.
Evans finished with six points on 3-4 shooting. Ngongba was on the roster but did not play.
Maluach had just two points for the World Team but he was a pain on defense.
One of the things we admire about Flagg’s game is that he has clearly been taught to crash the boards when a shot goes up. He just gets that and not everyone does.
This is also worth mentioning: this guy comes to win. He helped lead Montverde to an undefeated season, winning the national high school championship, helped his team win the McDonald’s game and now the Summit. He’s not messing around, which we love.
This is a fun event but as well as Flagg played, you don’t necessarily see people at their best here, or at least it’s hard for teams to play at a high level. It’s the same at the McDonald’s Game where the guards tend to dominate.
We’ll see more of all of these guys in the fall when they start to work in a system and learn to play consistently at a higher level simply because they have the ball more.
