Calcasieu officials warn of potential flooding
CALCASIEU PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office is informing residents of a potential flood in the parish.
Officials said they are taking precautionary measures in preparation for the possibility of flooding due to the open spillway gates at Toledo Bend Reservoir.
Chief Deputy Stitch Guillory says his department is already aware some areas have received minor flooding, and they have resources on standby if needed.
“We are currently seeing flooding in the areas of Alligator Park Road, Bass Lake Road, Fountain Cemetery Road, and Jimmy Doyle Road in Starks as well as Wright Road and Steward Road in Vinton. At this time the flooding is minimal, but we are urging residents to keep an eye on the situation. We have high water vehicles and boats staged in the areas and are prepared to handle any flood-related calls we may receive. We will continue to monitor the flooding situation,” said Guillory.
If anyone finds themselves in an emergency or trapped in their home and needs help evacuating or has any other flood-related issues, please call the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337) 491-3795 or 911 if it is an emergency.
