Liverpool has come together to remember the 35th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy.

Lord Mayor, Cllr Mary Rasmussen and Council Leader, Cllr Liam Robinson, laid flowers at the Hillsborough Memorial at Anfield on Monday 15 April.

Later, a minute’s silence was held outside Liverpool Town Hall at 3.06pm – the exact time at which the fateful match was stopped.

Following the silence, a bell tolled 97 times in tribute to each victim.

Members of the public gathered with civic leaders in Exchange Flags to pay their respects (top).

Flags were also flown at half-mast from civic buildings across the city, with the Town Hall lit up read after dark.

A banner was hung from the Town Hall, which read: “To the victims of Hillsborough, you’ll never walk alone.”
