MLS Next Tryout

If you are playing MLS next with one team and want to change to another MLS next team, When can you tryout without needing permission or release from your existing club ? Is it when the MLS cup/showcase is completed that season is considered over and the player is no longer considered to be any particular club ? or do you need permission/release no matter what .. ?
