2024 Swim Ireland AGM
On the evening of Tuesday 23rd April 2024 Swim Ireland hosted our Annual General Meeting.
We would firstly like to thank over 200 members who attended the meeting either as delegates over zoom or watched through our Youtube channel. This was our highest attendance in a long time and we truly appreciate the time that was given up to attend and input into the meeting.
We had fantastic engagement throughout, with lots of questions. There were a number of questions, particularly around national competitions, and we have agreed that we will run a further session in the coming weeks to address queries, there just wasn’t enough time on the night. Further details on this will follow.
We are delighted that all four motions that were put forward last night were passed by the membership as follows –
- Motion 1 – To increase the number of Board Directors by 1 to allow for the addition of an Athlete Nominee. This person will be appointed initially by the Athlete Commissions (swimming, diving and para swimming, and water polo)
- Motion 2 – Amendment to provide that members of the Masters Committee will be appointed rather than elected. This amendment will provide that the members of the Masters Committee be appointed rather than elected allowing the community to target individuals with specific skill sets to serve on the Committee.
- Motion 3 – Amendment to allow Water Polo Clubs to nominate a non-Water Polo Club member to the National Water Polo Committee. This amendment would allow (not require) Water Polo Clubs to nominate a non-Water Polo member (albeit the nominee shall be a member of a Swim Ireland Club) to the NWPC.
- Motion 4 – Proposes that the fees be set for each of the next three years as set out in Appendix 1. The increase will come into effect for the 2024/25 registration period.
There was also a number of elections on the night.
Congratulations to Swim Ulster representative Alison Honan who was last night ratified as the new Swim Ireland President. A huge thank you to outgoing President Joe Gavaghan for his time and dedication to the role during the last year, and we look forward to seeing him continue as a Swim Ireland official at our competitions.
We welcomed a number of new Board members included Cathal Marley (Chair), Kate Sherry (Secretary), Joe Cosgrove (Skillset Director) and Darragh McGinley (Independent Director).
We would also like to thank our outgoing board members including Chairman Peter Conway and directors Sorcha NiChleirigh and Aidan McLaughlin who have given so generously of their time. They will, no doubt, continue to be involved in the organisation into the future.
The AGM is always an important event in the Swim Ireland calendar, it shows transparency, gives our members a voice, and provides a platform for us to share details of projects, programmes and even conversations that are happening that our membership may not be aware of.
Once again, thank you to all who attended.
