New Delhi: BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar has touched down in the National Capital to meet Indian captain Rohit Sharma ahead of Men in Blue’s 15-member squad announcement for the T20 World Cup 2024. The mega tournament starts on June 1 with West Indies and USA as co-hosts. The former all-rounder was spotted at the Media Box at the Feroz Shah Kotla to watch the Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians match in the ongoing IPL 2024 on Saturday.

While no image of Agarkar has emerged on social media, media persons attending the Delhi capitals vs Mumbai Indians confirmed that Agarkar was spotted at the Press Box. While, Rohit, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja are certain to make the squad, there have been some serious competitions as far as the wicketkeeper’s slot is concerned.

Going by the performances in IPL 2024, Rishabh Pant looks to be the frontrunner for the first wicketkeeper’s choice while KL Rahul might leap ahead of Sanju Samson for the second keeper’s role. Another headache for Agarkar’s panel is the opening combination.

While several former cricketers opined that Virt Kohli should open the batting with Rohit, but inside reports suggest that Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to find his name in the squad and will be opening the batting. As far as bowling is concerned, Jasprit Bumrah will lead the pace attack with Mohammed Siraj in company. With Mohammed Shami missing out due to injury, Mukesh Kumar might replace him.

It will be interesting to see if Hardik Pandya finds a place in the side after the India all-rounder hasn’t performed according to his stature both with bat and ball while leading Mumbai Indians. Shivam Dube has found himself in contention to book a flight to USA and West Indies with his brutal hitting for CSK.

The final deadline for final submission of teams at T20 World Cup is May 1. India have been placed alongside Pakistan, Canada and tournament co-hosts USA in Group A.
