Sunday night Berwick traffic stop for speeding ends in marijuana arrest

BERWICK, La. (KLFY) -- A traffic stop in Berwick for speeding Sunday night yielded nearly 20 pounds of marijuana, authorities said.
Donald Bissant, 41, of New Orleans, is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana (over 2.5 lbs.), possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding 75/55 and driving with a suspended license.
According to Berwick Police, a traffic stop was conducted at about 6 p.m. Sunday on Hwy. 90 after a vehicle was observed traveling 75 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Police said while speaking with Bissant, a strong odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle, and that he was "displaying suspicious behavior consistent with criminal activity." A search of the vehicle located over 18 pounds of marijuana.
Bond details were not released.
