Although the cross is a devotional Christian object today, in the time of Jesus it was a hated and feared symbol. It stood for persecution, torture, and death. Why then do we see countless Renaissance paintings of Jesus his family and followers affectionately displaying a cross. Moreover, why have art world professionals ignored this fabrication for centuries--and still today?
