A tragic explosion at a military base in southwestern Cambodia that resulted in the deaths of 20 soldiers and injuries to several others has been attributed to a technical issue related to old and degraded ammunition being moved. The Defense Ministry clarified that the incident, which occurred on Saturday, was not an attack but rather an accident caused by mishandling of ammunition by troops. The ministry refuted claims made by an exiled opposition leader suggesting otherwise, stating that the investigation concluded it was an accident.
