Colombia cuts diplomatic ties with Israel over ‘Genocidal’ Gaza campaign
Foreign media outlets have reported that the Republic of Colombia, in response to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, which it has termed “genocide,” has severed its diplomatic ties with Israel.
According to a report by Voice of America published on Wednesday, May 1st, citing Gustavo Petro, the President of Colombia, it is stated that the Prime Minister of Israel has initiated genocide in Gaza.
Mr. Petro emphasized the severance of diplomatic relations with Israel and stated, “Tomorrow, Thursday, diplomatic relations with the government of Israel will be severed,” because, as he put it, “if Palestine dies, humanity dies.”
Voice of America continues to report, citing Israeli officials, that the Netanyahu government views Colombia’s action as “repugnant.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Katz also wrote on his social media X, “The President of Colombia had promised to reward the killers and aggressors of Hamas – and today he has done so.”
Amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza, reports indicate a sharp escalation in violence. The recent exchange of airstrikes and rocket attacks has resulted in a significant loss of civilian lives, deepening the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Hospitals and essential services are overwhelmed, while residents face food, water, and electricity shortages, exacerbating an already dire situation.
