The Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Afghanistan announced that Nouruddin Azizi, the acting minister, held discussions with General Mohammad Karimi, the governor of Sistan and Baluchistan province in Iran, and the special representative of the Iranian president at the Afghanistan-Iran border.

According to the ministry’s press release on Thursday, May 2nd, both sides discussed expanding trade between Afghanistan and Iran during this meeting.

Based on the press release, both parties also discussed enhancing transit through the Chabahar Port route.

Officials from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce stated that this was the second meeting of the Afghanistan delegation led by Acting Minister Nouruddin Azizi and the Iranian delegation.

Despite the resurgence of the Taliban in Afghanistan, Iran maintains close political and trade relations with the authorities of the group. However, it is among the countries that have not officially recognized it.

Previously, an Iranian deputy foreign minister referred to Afghanistan as a “golden opportunity” for Iran and emphasized the need to seize the markets in this country.
