Suspected improvised explosive device at Teche Motel, Main Street lane closed
UPDATE: Authorities have identified the suspected device as an improvised explosive device (IED), which is a homemade bomb or destructive device.
One lane of Main Street from Gajan to Deare Street has been closed, according to NIPD.
Motorists are told to avoid the area.
ORIGINAL: NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY)-- Multiple agencies are currently at the Teche Motel in New Iberia after officers discovered suspicious devices that needed further investigation, according to the New Iberia Police Department.
NIPD said officers were executing a search warrant for a narcotics investigation Friday when they came across suspicious devices in the residence.
Hazmat teams have been notified and are currently at the location. The residence has been evacuated, according to NIPD.
