“Tip for removing stains [from a] clothing reseller,” they said.
“Generally I try to avoid buying items with stains but sometimes I miss stuff.
“An old lady told me about a laundry trick that has worked really well for me on removing stains to restore value.”
TRICK OF THE TRADE
The Redditor explained their method, which they said works every time.
“Mix laundry detergent Borax Washing Soda Oxiclean in a bucket or washing machine with hot water and let the stained clothes soak overnight. Then wash as normal,” they said.
They added it’s a “100% success rate with my items so far.
“And the amount of crap that comes out of these clothes into the water is disgusting.
“Hopefully this can help someone out there.”
CROWD REACTION
Several Redditors weighed in on the “old lady” laundry hack in the comments section.
“Is there any discoloration or difference in feel?” one asked.
“Before washing after soaking it feels weird almost slimy after the wash everything I’ve done feels like regular clothing,” they replied.
“No discoloration yet, I’ve done a couple of items this May, maybe seven.”
One Redditor even chimed in to give their own laundry advice.
They were all too familiar with cleaning stains off of second-hand items.
“A woman who had a children’s resale shop told me her secret to stain removal,” they said.
“You add a cup of powdered dishwasher detergent and a cup of Clorox or other oxygenating bleach powder to a bucket of hot water, or a small load in the washer.
“You can put several stained or dingy articles of clothing in.
“Let it soak overnight and then wash normally.
“I used this method for my children’s clothes for years,” the parent added.
Tip to remove yellow sweat stains
Yellow armpit stains affects everyone, whether people care to admit to it or not. But there is help at hand. To remove yellow stains from your clothing, experts recommend the following methods:
- Baking soda paste: The pros at The Laundry Cafe recommend mixing one tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide with one tablespoon of salt, and ½ cup of baking soda. Apply directly to the stain with a toothbrush, rub, and let the mixture sit for at least an hour, then wash as normal.
- Oxygen bleach: This method is just as useful for removing yellow stains. Mix one part of oxygen-based bleach with one part of ammonia in a non-metal bowl. Wear gloves during this application. Rub into the fabric with a toothbrush and allow the solution to sit for at least ten minutes before laundering as normal.
- Stain remover or detergent: Stains on collars can be stubborn to remove as armpit stains. So pretreat the area using a solvent-based stain-removing agent or detergent. Work the product into the collar with a toothbrush and allow it to sit for at least ten minutes before washing.
