Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office implements crime stoppers program, new technology
EVANGELINE PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- From technological advances to a new reason for community involvement, progress in proactive law enforcement is priority for the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Charles Guillory said the advancements began earlier this year when his office was given a drone that has already played a role arresting multiple murder suspects. Additionally, the sheriff's office purchased two license plate readers that they've installed in key areas of the parish.
"This year we want to get two more, so we have four. And my idea is to put it in other words, put them in the four corners of the parish and that we will have the parish protected," Guillory said.
Guillory said tips from the community is also playing a huge role in knowing where to deploy the drone.
With the dependence on the community, Guillory said he's worked with other sheriff's offices in Acadiana to plan out the Evangeline Parish Crime Stoppers Program, offering a monetary reward for tips.
"It's a very good program because when you offer money, cash money, you're in a phone ring with the community's help because we can't do it without them means a lot," Guillory said. "And in doing something that is completely anonymous means a lot to them."
With these successes and more to come Guillory said he takes pride in his office's proactive approach. Guillory said the goal is to implement the crime stoppers program in the next three weeks.
