I was stunned by the £2k quote to get a ‘huge’ tree removed – people are mad it’s going, but it blocks out all our light
A WOMAN has hit back at people who’ve criticised her decision to have a ”humongous” tree removed from her back garden.
As the biggest plants on the planet, trees give us oxygen, store carbon and give life to the wildlife – however, one woman has revealed she’s planning to get rid of the huge tree in her garden, leaving people fuming.
Shanice took to TikTok to reveal her plans of cutting a ‘humongous’ tree in her garden, sparking fury[/caption] The woman claimed she was quoted an eye-watering sum of £2,000 after making enquiries[/caption] However, many social media users urged the Birmingham-based woman to rethink her plans[/caption]The first-time solo buyer, only known as Shanice, took to TikTok to complain about the hefty £2,000 quote she was given after making an enquiry about the removal.
Shanice, from Birmingham, explained that this was part of the garden renovation project she was working on, and was gobsmacked when an expert presented her with the quote.
”I could not believe when this person told me £2,000,” the gardening enthusiast said in the video.
”£2000 to cut down a tree and £1000 to cut it in half. That feels a bit steep if you ask me.”
The homeowner, who lives in a stunning 1930s end terrace, revealed that she was even ready to take drastic measures herself.
Shanice said she was also considering renting a harness and going ”up there” to cut the tree herself, joking that she’s been to Go Ape before and there was not much ”difference”.
But although the woman couldn’t wait to have the tree cut down as soon as possible, the reaction online was slightly different.
More than 4,000 people of the overall 763k viewers raced to comments, totally baffled by her decision to get rid of the ”beautiful” garden element.
One said: ”Can’t believe someone would kill such a beautiful tree.”
Another was just as gobsmacked, writing: ”The tree is lovely and it’s been there for so long. Sad to see it go.”
”You’ve bought a 30s house and you’re destroying a glorious old tree,” someone else chimed in.
A fourth noted why cutting the tree would be a bad idea, in their eyes.
”Your garden will feel sooo overlooked if you get rid of the tree girl, keep it!”
After being brutally slammed by critics on the platform, Shanice took to comments to respond to the people.
According to the homeowner, the garden feature was always in the way of sun, making the garden dark.
”It’s blocking all the sunlight,” she claimed, adding it wasn’t only her tree that was ”supplying air”.
How can I transform my garden on a budget?
There are some key elements which you need for a stunning garden glow-up on a tight budget.
- Lawn: Transforming your lawn can be cheaper if you decide to lay the turf yourself – prices in B&Q, for instance, are about £5 per square meter.
- Blooms: There are hundreds of types gardening fans could go for, – however, perennials like geraniums, lily-of-the-valley, siberian iris and daffodils will provide a great display for a small price. For a medium-sized garden, the cost of flowers shouldn’t go over more than £100.
- Small ornamental trees: Cherry blossom trees, Japanese Maple trees and Crabapple trees are all under £50 and make for a great carnival of colours.
- Gravel: Using gravel to form a path or patio area can be a much cheaper than adding decking to the outdoor space. This typically costs a modest £10 per square metre.
Luckily for the woman, there were also a few people who agreed with her, with some even offering a helping hand.
”I just had to get two trees cut down! One was just this size and cost £500, my plum tree was £350!” a fellow gardening fanatic said.
”It’s a tree in her garden – she don’t like and wants to cut it down … she has every right to do that without justification,” another hit back at the critics.
