My secret to getting the perfect paint line every time isn’t caulk – it’s much simpler, colors won’t bleed through
EVERYONE knows the age-old tape trick when painting the edges of your walls.
However, an extra step will elevate the hack even further, leaving you with the perfect finish.
Instagram user Zoe showed her followers the DIY trick she uses to get the perfect paint lines[/caption]In her viral video, Zoe (@pineandpoplardiy) demonstrated the simple technique for her followers.
The home expert described the move as “the secret to getting a perfect paint line.”
She began by pressing the tape firmly along the edge of her baseboards.
Before she started painting, Zoe carried out the “key” step to prevent the colors from running.
“Rub a wet towel over the tape,” the Instagrammer advised her audience.
She pointed out that using caulk or painting the base color first would also work.
However, Zoe explained that her wet towel technique is “much simpler.”
While she hasn’t tested the hack with every tape brand, she confirmed it worked with FrogTape.
FrogTape Painter’s Tape is available for $8.98 from Amazon.
Zoe revealed how adding dampness to the tape helped give a crisp finish.
“The water in the paint is supposed to activate the gel barrier and generally does a great job, but not always,” she explained.
“If you wipe some water on the tape line before painting, you’ll know you have a nice seal before painting.”
A decor blogger also shared the tip, describing it as “a trick to get the crispest paint lines ever.”
Posting on Chris Loves Julia, the DIY pro explained that they had previous trouble with colors bleeding while painting.
A retail assistant at Sherwin Williams recommended FrogTape to the homeowner.
“She told me it has a built-in powdered gel adhesive that is activated when wet and makes the tape seal to your walls so no paint can seep in,” they explained.
Steps for a crisp paint line
- Apply FrogTape along the edge of your baseboards.
- Run a damp cloth along the tape to activate the sealant.
- Paint your walls.
- Peel the tape away.
“If you’re lucky, while you’re painting this will get activated as you go.
“The secret, she said, is running a damp rag over the tape before painting to activate the sealing gel.”
Instagram users shared their thoughts on the hack in the comments section.
“Oh my gosh, thank you for the tip!!! I just painted using FrogTape but had a couple of spots bleed through. I will definitely try this,” wrote one impressed viewer.
“Wow! I will soon paint my dining room and will try this! Thank you!” said another follower.
“Wow!! So much easier than caulk!! Thank you!!” commented a third person.
