Bloomfield school evacuated due to ‘graffiti’ bomb threat

0

A school in Bloomfield was evacuated and searched on Friday following a bomb threat.

Students and staff were brought to the parking lot of the Global Experience Magnet School around 8:15 a.m. after graffiti found in a bathroom was “perceived as a bomb threat,” according to a statement issued by Capt. Stephen Hajdasz of the Bloomfield Police Department.

Bloomfield officers responded to the school and requested assistance from a Hartford Police Department K-9 trained to detect explosives, Hajdasz said.

Police searched the building during a sweep of the school and did not find any explosives.

“School officials elected to continue with the school day, and students and faculty reentered the school,” Hajdasz said.

Bethany Silver, acting superintendent of Bloomfield Public Schools, said police were “immediately” contacted when administrators learned of the threat and the building was evacuated.

According to Silver, police gave an “all-clear” around 10 a.m. and classes resumed.

Police are still investigating.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Bloomfield Police Department at 860-242-5501.
