Man Utd legend Robin van Persie lands first job in management having snubbed chance to work with Erik ten Hag
MANCHESTER UNITED legend Robin van Persie has landed his first job in management — having previously snubbed a return to Old Trafford.
The Dutch ace, 40, scored 58 goals in three seasons at United, helping them win their last Premier League title in 2013.
RVP, who also starred at Arsenal before his controversial move up north in 2012, was offered the chance to become part of Ten Hag’s coaching staff two years ago.
But Van Persie rejected the opportunity stay at Feyenoord, preferring to work with their youth teams instead.
And his decision has ultimately paid off, with the former striker now landing his first managerial gig as boss of Eredivisie giants Heerenveen.
The club look set for a 10th-place finish ahead of their final match against Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday.
Current manager Kees van Wonderen revealed in March he would be leaving at the end of his contract.
And Van Persie will take the reins this summer as he looks to make an impact as the main man.
RVP, who scored 132 goals in eight years at Arsenal, said: |I would like to continue my development and the role of head coach fits in perfectly with that goal.
“I am therefore pleased with the opportunity that Heerenveen offers me.

Van Persie will be hoping his managerial career is as successful as his playing days.
On top of his Premier League career, he won a Uefa Cup and Dutch Cup during two spells with Feyenoord.
Van Persie also had a stint in Turkey with Fenerbahce after leaving England.
