Report: Spurs putting ‘finishing touches’ on deal to sign teenage attacker
Football Insider have become the latest publication to confirm reports that Tottenham Hotspur are now on the verge of signing teenage striker George Feeney.
Feeney, who was born in Newport, has represented both Wales and Northern Ireland at youth level and has turned quite a lot of heads this season after breaking into the senior side of Glentoran, a club located in East Belfast.
John Wenham, who regularly breaks news regarding Tottenham’s youth set-up via his social media handle, Lilywhite Rose, revealed a couple of days ago that the 16-year-old has now agreed to join the Spurs academy on a two-year scholarship.
Tottenham beat out intense competition for Feeney
This has now also been backed up by Football Insider, who say that Feeney will now sign a long-term contract at Spurs imminently after agreeing to join the club.
The report reveals that the Lilywhites have beaten off interest in the centre-forward from several rival Premier League clubs, including Crystal Palace, Brighton and West Ham.
The publication states that the competition for the striker’s signature intensified in recent months, with several elite clubs tracking his progress but Spurs have now won the race and are ‘putting the finishing touches’ to the deal.
Spurs Web Opinion
If it is true that Tottenham have beat out competition from several clubs across the Premier League to land Feeney, then it sounds like a real coup for the North London club.
I doubt that youngster could have been persuaded to join the club under previous regimes but with Ange, there seems to be a feeling that it is now easier for youngsters to break into the first-team set-up.
