Report: Tottenham still in ‘box seat’ because player does not want Newcastle move

In what comes as a big boost to Tottenham’s hopes of landing Conor Gallagher, Football Insider have said that the Chelsea star has turned down the chance to join Newcastle United this summer.

The report says that along with Spurs, Newcastle have held a long-term interest in Gallagher and still remain in the mix to sign the midfielder.

However, the Magpies have now received a blow after learning that the player is not keen to move to the North East.

It is suggested that while Eddie Howe’s men are still in the race for the Blues star, they are not in the leading pack and are not hopeful of persuading the player.

According to the report, Gallagher’s preference is to remain at Chelsea but even if that is not possible, he does not wish to move to Tyneside and would rather remain in London.

The publication adds that contract talks between the England international and Chelsea have reached an ‘impasse’, with Tottenham now in ‘the box seat’ to secure his signature.

If Chelsea could help it, I am sure they would prefer not to sell their academy graduate to Tottenham, although it does sound like a move to N17 would be the player’s top preference if he is to leave Stamford Bridge.
