Suspected fentanyl found after suspect flees in Manhattan
MANHATTAN (KSNT) - On Friday, the Riley County Police Department (RCPD) arrested a man after finding a substance suspected to be fentanyl in a backpack.
At 2:50 a.m., RCPD attempted to perform a traffic stop for a tag violation. The driver of the suspect vehicle fled from police. Police called off the pursuit but monitored the taillights of the suspect vehicle from a distance. Later, officers found the vehicle in the 1300 block of North 11th Street.
Officers found a black backpack in the middle of the road. The backpack had identification and drugs that tested positive for methamphetamines. Other drugs found were suspected to be fentanyl.
At 3:10 a.m., police received reports of a stolen vehicle that matched the suspect vehicle.
A man matching the identification found in the backpack was arrested on the following charges:
- distribution of heroin/certain substances > 100 grams
- flee or attempt to elude
- distribution of opiate/opium/narcotic/ certain stimulant 100 grams - < 1 kilogram
- distribute/ possess with the intent to distribute/manufacture
The suspect is facing a $85,000 bond.
