Marin unemployment rate dips to 3.4%, state says
Marin County’s unemployment rate was 3.4% last month, a decline from an adjusted 3.7% in March, according to state data released Friday.
The rate was the second lowest in the state for April, the California Employment Development Department reported. San Mateo County had a rate of 3.3%. San Francisco tied Marin for second place. San Luis Obispo County was the next lowest at 3.5%.
By comparison, California had an unadjusted unemployment rate of 4.8% in April, the employment department reported. The national rate was 3.5%.
In April 2023, the estimated unemployment rate in Marin was 2.7%.
Marin added 1,700 jobs overall between April 2023 and April 2024, the state reported. About 900 of those jobs were in private education and health services, and 600 were in government.
The state estimated Marin’s labor force to be 131,300 last month, including 126,800 workers and 4,500 unemployed people.
The labor force figures do not include business owners, self-employed people, private household employees and people who commute outside the county for work.
