'Pretty as he sleeps': Lauren Boebert's odd take on Trump's sleepy courtroom look
Rep. Lauren Boebert isn't sure if former President Donald Trump is napping or communicating with his maker during his criminal hush money trial, but after her visit to the New York City courtroom Thursday, there is one thing the Colorado Republican knows for sure.
“If he is sleeping, [Trump] certainly looks pretty as he sleeps,” Boebert reportedly said. But she hedged, "I think he’s praying."
Reports of Boebert's declaration appeared a day after she sat behind Trump in the Manhattan criminal courtroom where the former president stands accused of falsifying business records to cover up hush money paid ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
During weeks of trial, Trump has been seen taking a "bonafide nap" and repeatedly dropping off, despite the salacious and dramatic nature of testimony brought by a tabloid executive David Pecker, adult film star Stormy Daniels and former fixer Michael Cohen.
“I know when I fall asleep on airplanes my mouth kind of drops open," Boebert told Politico. "His mouth is kind of tight-lipped, so maybe it’s just a somber moment of thought.”
Boebert herself appeared alert in the courtroom on Thursday and outside the courthouse during a press conference where she was heckled with the words "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice."
The Colorado Republican disappeared from the bench behind Trump that afternoon.

Her quote appears in a report on chaos Thursday night in the House of Representatives that saw lawmakers on both sides of the aisle trading insults.
According to Politico, "both Republicans and Democrats acknowledged some members had been drinking that evening."
