We’re building ourselves a ‘barndominium’ – we like it more than a regular house, it’s cost-effective with high ceilings
A HARDWORKING duo has utilized their carpentry skills to create a barndominium instead of a regular house.
They said the property is cost-effective and affordable with high ceilings and a luxurious feeling.
Joe and Kailey (@darrdominium) are building their dream home in Virginia for their family of four.
They are DIYing a 40 by 80 by 17 “barndominium” that will have three bedrooms.
To make the move feasible for the married couple and their two children, they are temporarily living in a camper while they are building it.
They gave an inside look at the construction process in a TikTok video.
The pair shared some of the reasons why they decided to go with a barndominium instead of a “traditional stick-built house.”
When the video began, they revealed the outside of the home, which was covered in matte black paint.
Then they showed the unfinished walls inside with wooden structures all over as they panned around the room.
They first explained that they liked the high ceilings and spacious open-concept.
Another unique detail is that the inside is customizable with any floor plan and has free reign for interior design.
It also included a huge 1,600-square-foot garage space
The biggest bonus was that the property would be cost-effective and low maintenance.
Viewers were skeptical about how much money the couple would save and the cost of bills.
“How’s the heating Bill?” one asked.
“It will be low. We have an outdoor wood boiler. We will know soon lol,” they replied.
“Can I ask about how much it costs? I would rather have this than build a house,” another inquired.
“Our build projected cost is $360k excluding land,” they answered.
“Cost-effective until the first gas bill,” someone else said.
Budget interior design tips
Interior designer Judy Hoang shared her furniture tips with The U.S. Sun.
- Thrift furniture and paint it to match your decor.
- Test if an item is fit for its purpose before thrifting.
- Shop at Target or HomeGoods for rugs, lamps, desks, and pillows.
- Invest in classic timeless pieces.
- Set up smart home lighting to save money.
The “best part” of why they chose to invest in building a barndominium is simply because they “love the look” of it, and they weren’t the only ones.
“the slab is something to calculate. Looks good!” a viewer said.
“One day I’ll have my dream barndo like that,” another added.
