Unfashionable name is almost extinct after only four newborn babies in UK were given old school moniker, stats show
JUST four newborn boys were named Barry in 2022, official statistics have revealed.
Even the rise of Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan and enduring appeal of singer Barry Manilow and the Bee Gees’ Barry Gibb failed to halt the slide.
And with so few being given the name recently it is likely to disappear altogether.
Other boys’ names falling out of favour include Rodney, with just nine born in 2022.
Girls’ names falling by the wayside include Doris, with just six in 2022.
There were only 11 Janets and four Karens and not one child was given the name Nigel, Carol, Greg or Brenda.
Noah and Olivia were the most popular names in England and Wales in 2022, according to the Office for National Statistics.
Muhammad, which ranked 20th in 2012, soared to second place.
New entries included Leon, Elias, Musa, Ophelia, Ottilie, Eloise, Nova and Fatima.
