Johnstown man sentenced for sexually assaulting a child

JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Fulton County District Attorney's Office announced that John Lyman Sr., 37, of Johnstown, has been sentenced for the predatory sexual assault of a child. He now faces 20 years to life in prison.

Lyman pleaded guilty back in March to sexually assaulting a minor in a parked car on West Montgomery Street on February 18, 2023. He was sentenced before Judge Michael Smrtic on May 17.

"The survivor’s bravery along with the countless hours spent by law enforcement and this office investigating the case has ensured that a violent predator has been removed from the community and held accountable for his abhorrent behavior," said District Attorney Michael Poulin. "Crimes of sexual violence perpetrated against children are particularly heinous and cruel. The defendant’s conviction and sentence are a testament to the commitment of the District Attorney’s Office to ensuring that the survivors of sexual violence receive justice."
