Washburn University hosts international visitors from Africa

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Eighty business leaders from Africa were in Topeka this week as part of an international conference.

The business leaders gathered from 14 different countries for the 24th Academy of African Business and Development (AABD) conference at Washburn University. The majority of the conference was held in the university's Memorial Union, but the group also visited the Brown vs. Board of Education historical site for a social event during the week.

Washburn University School of Business Professor and current Vice President of Finance for the AABD, Dr. Norma Juma, explained the importance of the annual event.

“This particular forum was actually founded just for that,” Juma said. “We come together once a year and talk about the research for the different fields and see how that research can inform practice."

Hosting the conference in Topeka is a pretty big deal, as each year the group meets in a different country at a higher institution. Next year’s conference will be held in Kenya.
