The secret London tube stations you can now rent out for boozy parties & secret underground bashes
SECRET London Tube stations can now be hired out for your next party and it costs surprisingly little.
Transport for London has opened disused stations up for the public to rent for their next shindig and it could be your only chance to ever see them.
A disused platform inside Aldwych Tube station can now be hired from TfL for your next party[/caption] Normally you cannot drink on the Tube but you could get an alcohol licence to serve liquor here[/caption]Normally, drinking in stations or on the Tube is banned and can result in a fine of up to £1,000.
But if you hire out one of the stations you may be able to get a licence to consume booze at your event and make it extra special.
A whopping 300 people can fit into one of the stations like Aldwych, the disused Jubilee Line platforms at Charing Cross (which features a stationary train), or the Waterloo and City line platforms at Bank station.
TfL have also opened up the IFS Cloud Cable Car and the river piers Westminster Pier and Blackfriars Pier.
Hiring a station will set you back up to £3,000 an hour.
Aldwych, which closed in 1994, Bank (Waterloo & City Line branch) and Charing Cross are among the stations that can be hired out for exclusive use.
And eerie Aldwych station has featured in TV shows and films, including Sherlock, Atonement, V for Vendetta and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.
Julie Dixon, Head of Customer Information, Design & Partnerships at TfL said: “There are so many interesting locations across the TfL network and I am excited that we are now able to offer some of these for exclusive event hire.
“They offer functionally great and iconic spaces that reflect the best of London and its history, making them the ideal location to host a variety of functions.
“They will not only appeal to transport enthusiasts, but also anyone looking for a more unique and non-conventional space to successfully hold their event.”
The possibility of hiring the station comes as London Transport Museum offers tours at 10 stations, including Piccadilly Circus, Baker Street, and Clapham South.
Baker Street will be popular with history buffs as the station includes 160 years of history and a look at the earliest days of the underground.
Meanwhile, Down Street has a bomb shelter that was used by Winston Churchill during WW2.
Charing Cross station will be a fan of film buffs as an abandoned platform was used in Bond, Sherlock, Luther and Bourne blockbusters.
Charing Cross filming location
CHARING Cross, near Trafalgar Square, is typically the go-to location for any tube-based scenes for films.
The station has an old Jubilee line platform that hasn’t been used by travellers since 1999.
Now the old platform acts as a purpose built film set, with the likes of Daniel Craig, Idris Elba and even Paddington Bear filming scenes there.
Siddy Holloway, Engagement Manager for London Transport Museum’s Hidden London, told Sun Online Travel why it is a perfect location to film any underground scenes.
She said: “Charing Cross is where we marry up underground history with pop culture because it is used extensively as a film set for Hollywood blockbusters.
“Skyfall was filmed there, Paddington, Thor, the Bourne Ultimatum, Luther, Sherlock Holmes and others.
“It’s the old Jubilee Line concourse that closed in 1999 and so they can authentically create the atmosphere of the underground without disturbing passengers on the actual underground.”
