Opelousas family business and local filmmaker team up for new TV show
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – An unemployed single mother of five turned commercial fishing company owner is taking over social media.
Natasha Pickens and her children will soon be the stars of a brand-new TV show brought to life by fellow Opelousas native and award-winning filmmaker Sedrick Savoy. As the 337 Fishing Queen and Crew have worked to grow their business, Savoy has dedicated his life to the art of film, making movies in his hometown and signing a film and music distribution deal with Warner Brothers.
After filming his latest project in Opelousas, Savoy said he was shown the 337 Fishing Queen and Crew's social media.
"And I noticed that she was doing everything wrong. So, I reached out and I told I said, listen, I've got a plan that we can put something together that is going to benefit you, your kids and the community as well," Savoy said.
Combining the hard work and personality of the 337 Fishing Queen and Crew with the creativity of Savoy's production, Pickens said the family's social media has seen tremendous growth.
"Everything is really expanding big, and I'm getting more people, multiple messages of me, inspiring other women and bringing out their kids and things like that is helping like a lot and everything has grown tremendously," Pickens said.
With a large audience and a newfound partnership, Savoy and the Pickens family are ready to begin their latest project, a brand-new tv show.
"The show is really about to educate a lot of people on how to fish the correct way of fish in following fishing guidelines and really just having fun with it. And Natasha definitely has what it takes to show the people that," Savoy said.
As the series plans to begin filming in June, Pickens said the journey from unemployment to fame with her family can only be described as a dream come true.
