It's nothing new. The cost of groceries has been a challenge for many families over the years. Looking back in the archives of the Calgary Herald, we found articles that detail people's struggles in 1974 as inflation rose sharply to 11 per cent. Increasing food prices, increasing energy prices and the end of a wage-price controls program in the U.S. accelerated inflation between 1972 and 1974.
