Woman, 78, dead after armed police swarm Edinburgh street as multiple ‘gunshots’ heard
COPS have arrested a 36-year-old man after a pensioner was found dead in a house in Edinburgh.
Officers locked down Fernieside Crescent in the capital following an alleged incident this morning.

A 78-year-old woman was found dead at the scene.
Locals reported more than 20 emergency services vehicles swarmed the site.
And one resident caught the terrifying moment apparent police gunshots were fired on their Ring doorbell camera.
In the footage, an officer can be seen walking through a garden before five bangs were heard.
A few seconds later, a further six were recorded.
A section of Fernieside Crescent remains closed this afternoon as detectives and forensic officers carried out their investigation.
Forensic officers could be seen in white suits going in and out of a block house on the street.
Locals watched on some visibly shaken and shocked by what had happened.
One horrified local told how they heard screams around 8am.
The resident, who declined to be named, said: “I heard screams not long after I got up.
“It seemed unusual but I thought nothing more about it.
“A while later I heard more sirens and saw armed cops on the street.
“I was told to stay inside and I could hear them shouting at someone.
“Then there was several gunshots, a dozen maybe, all within a couple of minutes.
“I’ve no idea who was shot or what happened.”
Another resident said: “There are several rumours doing the rounds so I am not sure what has happened but there were about six or seven armed cops and I heard them telling a guy to get his hands on his head.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 78-year-old woman in Edinburgh on Tuesday, 21 May, 2024.
“Around 8.25am, police were called to a disturbance within a house in Fernieside Crescent. Police and Ambulance attended and a 78-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death and enquiries continue.
“This was an isolated incident and officers remain in the area to provide public reassurance and anyone with concerns should speak to officers.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
