Troy hosts Pride Flag raising ceremony
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The city of Troy hosted a Pride Month celebration on Monday. City leaders and advocates raised the Pride Flag outside city hall for the third consecutive year.
The city council unanimously passed a resolution to formally recognize Pride Month. Advocates said a lot of progress has been made at the legislative level in New York State; however, they said that does not guarantee equal rights on their own.
"It's not necessarily any longer about a law or a statute or a regulation," Capital Region Pride Center Exec. Dir. Nathaniel Gray said. "It's about doing the work. It's about being an activated ally."
Advocates also said more needs to be done to connect members of the LGBTQ community with mental health and addiction treatment, housing and more.
