Austin Water to repair waterline in SW Austin on June 7, service disruption possible
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Water wants southwest Austin residents to conserve water and limit nonessential use starting Friday so crews can fix a waterline, the utility said Monday.
A 48-inch waterline near the Davis Lane pump station is leaking and has to be taken offline. That may, or may not, result in low water pressure or service disruptions for some residents, according to a press release.
The affected area is large and covers the A, B, and C pressure zones of southwest Austin that coincide with Austin City Council districts 5 and 8. Residents can visit Austin Water's website and input their address to see if they are in the affected area.
A map of the area is shown below.
"Austin Water is notifying the community out of an abundance of caution so that customers can have water for essential uses on hand, should a service disruption occur," the utility said.
Customers of Shady Hollow, High Valley Water Supply and Mid-Tex Utility will also be affected by the repairs.
Repairs are scheduled to take 12 hours but could last longer depending on field conditions according to the press release. Austin Water said it will offer free cases of bottled water for folks at 7 a.m. Friday and the locations of pick-ups will go out later in the week.
Reservoirs are being filled to capacity in southwest Austin before repairs begin. While the line is being worked on, crews "will have limited ability to refill area reservoirs," Austin Water said.
Austin Water is also asking people in the affected area to store water, 1 gallon per person per day, no later than Thursday.
Austin Water said they've started to contact residents and businesses about the possible service disruptions through emails, phone calls, social media posts and the My ATX Water portal.
