We live on a bus and haven’t paid rent in three years – we don’t pay for water or electricity either, we save loads

A COUPLE have revealed that they live in a bus and as a result don’t have to pay any rent.

Amanda and Owen have lived on the road, in their old school bus, for the past three years and spend their time “nomadic living”.

It comes after the pair lived with Amanda’s parents for two years, while they were saving money for their dream wedding.

However, when the coronavirus pandemic hit, their plans were cancelled.

The couple then found themselves with nowhere to live and but with both of their savings combined, they were “nowhere near close enough” to being able to buy a home.

But whilst they couldn’t afford to buy a house, they realised that they could afford to get a bus.

Posting on social media, the couple explained: “We are now travelling the country living rent free and are slowly adding to our savings to buy a house somewhere one day, but for now, there isn’t anywhere we’d rather be.”

In a short clip shared online, the couple shared two great things about living in an RV.

As we saw Owen lying down on his bus bed, looking out of the window, he wrote: “POV: You haven’t paid rent in three years.”

The man then gave social media users a tour of the couple’s tiny home on wheels, which is complete with a sofa area, a kitchen space and a large bed.

The bus is big enough to fit the couple’s two dogs, but it’s the views that the bus provides that the couple really love, as Owen then added: “There are so many amazing parts about bus life but having 360 views at all times is one of the best!”

At the same time, in another video, the couple shared a breakdown of their weekly expenses.

The pair explained that they often sleep in car parks, which is totally free.

When it comes to their laundry, they take their dirty clothes, towels and sheets to a launderette, which costs them $20 [£15.70].

They revealed that they don’t have to pay for water, as it’s free to dump and fill up their tank.

When it comes to their petrol, they spent $123 [£96.70].

The couple then shared: “We think it’s a pretty fair price to have views like this 80% of the time.”

SOCIAL MEDIA USERS REACT

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @indigosomewhere, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly gone viral and has since racked up 4.4 million views.

Social media users were stunned at the couple’s lifestyle and many took to the comments to share their thoughts.

One person said: “How do you guys earn a living then? I’d love a life like this.”

The couple later confirmed: “We both have full time remote jobs.”

Another added: “I want this to be my life.”

Is it legal to live in a van?

IF you are looking to live in a van to save money or travel, you'll be pleased to know that there are no UK laws stopping you.

However, you must ensure your vehicle has passed its MOT and is fully road legal.

There could also be restrictions on where you can park up and sleep in your van.

For example, local authorities place restrictions on certain streets or lay-bys, and you could be fined if you spend the night there.

It could also be unsafe to spend the night in some locations (particularly at night time).

Check the The Highway Code guide for guidance.

A third commented: “So cool!”

Whilst someone else penned: “Living my dream.”

At the same time, another user wrote: “I feel that would be fun for a day.”

In response, the couple replied: “And then a thousand more.”
