JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy won the Mandya seat in Karnataka by a margin of 2,84,620 votes, defeating Congress' Venkataramane Gowda. Kumaraswamy secured 8,51,881 votes, while Gowda received 5,67,261. JD(S) allied with BJP for the Lok Sabha polls. The former Chief Minister, son of ex-Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, aims to become Agriculture Minister if the Modi government is re-elected. Kumaraswamy, a five-time MLA, currently represents the Channapatna Assembly seat.
