The UDF candidate cruised ahead within the first couple of hours of counting, maintaining a clear and consistent majority till the end. He polled 4,43,628 votes, gaining a majority of 1,50,302 votes over LDF’s M. Mukesh. The NDA’s G. Krishnakumar came third with 1,63,210 votes
