My neighbour complained after I had a BBQ in the garden – her reason makes zero sense, but some people are on her side

THE arrival of June marked the official start of summer for the year – and one family’s first fallout with their neighbours.

A dad from Lanarkshire, Scotland, revealed he fired up the barbecue on Saturday to celebrate the warmer weather.

But it quickly sparked an argument with the woman next door who insisted they should have told her about their dinner plans first.

Taking to Facebook, the stunned dad said: “So, just moved here in January, loving it here.

“You’re enjoying a lovely family night in your garden having a BBQ then your next door neighbour knocks complaining that she’s got expensive dresses out on the line.

“[She said] could we let her know each time we are having a BBQ? Eh no sorry.”

Questioning her argument, he added: “She has no washing line [and] they had no washing out when I looked.”

The incident has left social media users divided on the etiquette surrounding barbecues in your garden.

Some firmly believe you shouldn’t have to give neighbours the heads up as you’re in your own private space.

One said: “Tell her to f*** off it’s your garden.”

A second wrote: “It’s the chance you take in the summer with 3/4 gardens facing each other someone is gonna have a BBQ on?”

And a third added: “No [I wouldn’t let her know]. But I might say something if she ever has a BBQ.”

Others, however, agree that neighbours deserve to know if wafting smoke and the stench of cooked meat is going to ruin their clean laundry.

“It’s a nice gesture to let neighbours know if you’re having a fire or BBQ, gives them a chance to get the washing in”, insisted one.

Someone else echoed: “I thought that was normal when having a BBQ.

“My old neighbour would let me know if I had washing out. Maybe I scared him.”

Meanwhile, another person chimed in: “I would always let my neighbours know if I was having a BBQ or a bonfire.”

And if this has put you in the mood for a barbecue, check out this 24-piece meat pack that supermarket shoppers are insisting “has everything”.

Savvy mum Lorna Cooper, from Paisley, shared her £8.50 bargain find with her fellow shoppers this week.

Posting on Feed your family for about £20 a week, a public Facebook group with 675,000 followers, the mum of three said: “Need the perfect pack for your Bank Holiday BBQ?

“Look no further than [this] 24 Selection Pack – it has everything you need!”
