CT man shot, killed during ‘disturbance’ in Waterbury
A man was shot and killed following a disturbance in Waterbury in the early morning hours Tuesday.
Police responded at 12:16 a.m. to the area of 69 Washington St. on a report of shots fired and learned that a gunshot victim had been taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital in a private vehicle, according to Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department.
The victim, who was later identified by police at the hospital as 30-year-old Roberto Baez of Waterbury, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, Bessette said in a statement.
Officers who responded to Washington Street found evidence of a shooting and believe that is where Baez was shot during “some type of disturbance” outside, according to Bessette.
Bessette said investigators believe it was an isolated incident.
Major Crimes Detectives are investigating the fatal shooting. Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Waterbury Detective Bureau at 203-574-6941 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 203-755-1234.
