Westport fire crews contain patio fire, prevent extension to nearby home
Firefighters were able to contain a patio fire in Westport on Monday night and prevent it from reaching a nearby home.
Fire crews responded to a home on Burnham Hill at 11:38 p.m. after receiving a report that an outdoor structure next to the residence was burning, according to Brian Meadows, assistant chief of the Westport Fire Department.
Meadows said four engines, one truck company and a shift commander were dispatched to the home, where police officers first arrived and confirmed a working fire.
Crews from Engine 5 stretched a hose line upon arrival and put out the blaze. The structure that was burning stood on a poolside patio that was adjacent to the residence.
Additional crews that arrived on scene provided a water supply and confirmed the fire did not extend to the home, according to Meadows.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters from the Norwalk and Fairfield fire departments provided station coverage for Westport during the incident, Meadows said. The Westport Police Department and EMS assisted fire crews at the scene, which was cleared by 1:47 a.m.
The fire remains under investigation by the Westport Fire Marshal’s office.
