‘They can win it’ – Spurs fans will love Jose Mourinho’s prediction for the club under Ange
Jose Mourinho predicts that Tottenham have enough quality to win the Europa League next season under Ange Postecoglou after they secured a return to European football this year.
Spurs were without European competition for the first time in over a decade last season but certainly took advantage of that fact as they started a significant rebuild under Ange Postecoglou.
The Lilywhites started the season on fire with eight wins and two draws from the first ten games, but eventually petered out after a string of frustrating injuries. The Lilywhites eventually fell short of Champions League football, but finished in a very respectable fifth position.
Jose Mourinho, who endured a tumultuous time in the Spurs hot seat, was both complimentary and judgemental of his former side during an appearance at the Champions League final this week.
Jose Mourinho predicts Tottenham Europa League success
The Special One admitted that, unlike at Chelsea, he could see a long-term plan going on with Postecoglou at Tottenham. He also backed the Lilywhites to have a chance at Europa League success next time out.
However, there appeared to also be a thinly veiled dig at Tottenham’s ambitions, implying that the club are happy to aim for fourth and fifth every year in the Premier League.
Speaking to TNT Sports (01/06/24 from 19:00), Mourinho said: “[Chelsea] I have no idea.
“Tottenham I have an idea, this is Tottenham, always fighting to be fourth, which would be amazing between fourth, fifth, sixth, next season the Europa League, of course, they can win it.
“They look [to have] stability, they are investing more, amazing club, amazing facilities, such a beautiful stadium, you can feel it. Chelsea… I really don’t know.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
As usual, Mourinho is anything but subtle but bang-on with his assessment. Tottenham do need to push for something higher than a Champions League finish, and Postecoglou feels like the man to bring that mentality to the club.
A Europa League win would be incredible next season to finally end the club’s long wait for a piece of silverware!
