Wet to warm weather builds over Oregon, Washington Tuesday
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The lingering impacts of Oregon and Washington’s unseasonable late atmospheric rivers will last through Tuesday. But, then things change in a big way.
A few lingering showers will keep skies cloudy over the Portland area and fternoon highs will remain below average Tuesday with mid- to upper-60s expected. Rain accumulation will only amount to a few light showers -- a couple-hundredths of an inch -- along the Willamette Valley.
A ridge of high pressure will begin to build over the western half of the country by the middle of the week. This weather pattern setup will help warm temperatures into the mid-70s by Wednesday and 90s are possible by Friday.
The latest round of heat is expected to come close to record-breaking conditions. Friday's record was set in on June 7, 1948 when the temperature hit 93 degrees. Portland's forecast is only expected to hit 90. So, the 1948 record would remain untouched.
Western Oregon and Washington's latest round of summer heat isn't long-lasting. A northwesterly flow will help to bring temperatures back down to seasonable conditions by the end of the weekend. That's where a few more clouds will start working their way back into the Portland area.
