NY increases patrols for speeding, distracted drivers
NEW YORK (PIX11) – More state police patrols are on the roads this week looking for speeders, distracted drivers and those who break the Move Over Law, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul.
During last year's “Speed Week” campaign, state troopers issued nearly 21,000 traffic tickets. More than 10,000 tickets were issued for speeding, at least 500 for distracted driving, 375 hit with violations related to the “Move Over Law,” which requires drivers to move for police and emergency vehicles.
Another 172 people were arrested for drunk and impaired driving.
This year's speed week enforcement crackdown lasts through Sunday.
